Phone reservations are still being accepted for the informal reading of the new rock concert musical, Sugar Mountain, which is being presented by Via Theater Company Jan. 11 at 8 PM at Dance Theater Workshop (DTW) in New York City.
As reported earlier, the reading of playwright Stephen Belber's play stars Via Theatre Company members Kristen Lee Kelly, Megan Spooner, Rachael Warren and the 1998 Bessie Award-winning rock band Fellaheen (Rob Clores, Robert Bonhomme, Patrick Fondiller, Roderick Hohl).
Songs for Sugar Mountain are by Howard Schuman and Andy MacKay. The project was conceived and directed by director Brian Jucha. Music director is Roderick Hohl and lighting director is Roma Flowers.
Described as a theatre piece disguised as a rock concert Sugar Mountain tells the story of three sisters in a band named Joe and their thirsty search for a "Holy Grail called Sugar Mountain."
Production sources said drafts of the book, video samplers and live CDs of the songs recorded at the first two workshops are now available. DTW is located at 219 West 19th Street in New York City. For information call (212) 481-3650. Admission is free.
