Sutton Foster wanted to come back to Thoroughly Modern Millie June 25 after missing three weekend performances, but her doctor told her to give it a rest.

Foster, who snagged a Tony Award for the title role, missed the June 25 performance to recover from a bug that seems to be going around. A spokesman for the show said she's rested and ready, and will be back at the June 26 matinee.

Celebrated for a big smile and bigger voice, Foster was under the weather in recent days and bowed out of weekend performances June 22-23. It was thought she'd be back June 25.

For Saturday and Sunday shows, as well as the Tuesday performance, Catherine Brunell (once of Les Misérables) stepped into the role of the social-climbing flapper who finds herself lovestruck on the way up.

The musical won 2002 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Actress (Musical) for Foster, Best Featured Actress (Musical) for Harriet Harris, Best Choreography (Rob Ashford) and Best Costumes (Martin Pakledinaz). Michael Mayer directed. Performances continue at the Marquis Theatre. A national tour will launch in 2003.
