News "Reviewing the Situation": Off-Broadway World Premiere Retitled Oliver Parker! StageFARM has announced a title change for the Off-Broadway world premiere of Oliver!, which is not the 1963 musical by Lionel Bart, but a new work from playwright Elizabeth Meriwether.

In order to clear up confusion between the two works (both of which employ the signature exclamation point in their titles), Meriwether has re-titled her work Oliver Parker! The play centers on the unlikely friendship between a 17 year-old boy and a 60 year-old man.

Evan Cabnet will direct the production that will begin previews May 9 and officially open May 17. Performances are scheduled through June 6 at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

The cast features Emmy Award-winning actor John Larroquette ("Night Court"), Tony nominee Johanna Day (Proof, Peter and Jerry, August: Osage County), as well as Monica Raymund (The Color of Desire) and Michael Zegen ("Rescue Me").

"Oliver is 17 and Jasper is 60," according to StageFARM. "They are best friends. Oliver wants to get laid, and Jasper wants to help. Jasper wants to drink himself to death, and Oliver wants to save him. And they share a secret that could ruin them both... if it hasn't already."

The design team will include Lauren Helpern (set design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Jessica Shay (costume design) and Zane Birdwell (sound design). Meriwether, who is a playwright in residence at Ars Nova, has penned the plays The Mistakes Madeline Made, Heddatron, Nicky Goes Goth, The True Love Story My Parents and 90 Days.

The Cherry Lane Theatre is located in Manhattan at 38 Commerce Street, between Barrow and Bedford Streets.
