The New York Daily news reports that Reza and Polanski have been collaborating on the film, which will be set in New York, but will shoot in Europe next year. Reza (Art, A Spanish Play, Life (X) 3) broke the news to Agence France-Presse.

God of Carnage was authored in French by Reza and adapted to English by playwright Christopher Hampton. The original London premiere of the play was set in Paris, but changed to Brooklyn when the production made its Broadway transfer in 2009. The names of the central characters, including Veronique, Michel, Annette and Alain, became Veronica, Michael, Annette and Alan, respectively.

Casting for the film has not been revealed. The Broadway production boasted a cast of screen heavy-hitters including Marcia Gay Harden, James Gandolfini, Jeff Daniels and Hope Davis, all of whom earned Tony nominations for their performances, with Harden taking the Best Actress honor.

The Broadway production was directed by Matthew Warchus, who earned a Tony for his work. The dramatic comedy also took the Tony Award for Best Play.

God of Carnage centers on two sets of upper-middle class parents who attempt and fail to resolve a playground dispute between their children. A discussion over coffee and clafoutis turns into an animalistic battle of the sexes.

God of Carnage opened to raves on Broadway March 22, 2009, where it played to sold-out houses with its original cast. The production closed June 6, 2010, after 452 regular performances and 24 previews.
