Classic Arts News Richard Croft Replaces Torsten Kerl as Houston's Idomeneo Tenor Torsten Kerl has withdrawn from the Houston Grand Opera's production of Mozart's Idomeneo, King of Crete, which starts later this month. Richard Croft will replace him in the title role.
Kerl has canceled his appearance for personal reasons, the HGO said in a statement.

The performances, from January 28 through February 13, are the company's first-ever of the work, an opera seria that has only recently begun to be performed widely.

Croft, the brother of baritone Dwayne Croft, sang Idomeneo at the Flanders Opera in Antwerp in 1998. He has previously appeared at Houston Grand Opera as Ferrando in CosÐ fan tutte and Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville.
