Richard Jay-Alexander, who helmed Bernadette Peters' acclaimed Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall concerts, will direct the premiere of The Nature of the Beach, a new play by David Sexton.

Sexton's gay-themed play, about "the nature of relationships, friendships and the unwritten rules that seem to keep them going," will play The Shores Performing Arts Theatre beginning Sept. 12; the official opening night is scheduled for Sept. 13.

Sexton, who has also written The Winged Spirit Tarot Card and The Tarot of Oz, will head a cast that also includes David Leddick, Billy Bean, Edison Farrow, Bryan Lamb, Andres Alexis, Ezequiel Hernandez, Michel Gardner, Luis Cabrera, Luiz Fontanezzi, Angel Marchese, Jesus Rodriguez, Julio Scardini and Augusto Starico. The creative team comprises Yvette Perdomo (stage manager), Alexis Rodriguez Duarte (onstage gallery photographs) and Whittall and Shon (wardrobe/costumes). Vince Colonna will serve as the play's executive producer.

The Nature of the Beach will run through Sunday, Sept. 22 at The Shores, which is located in Miami, Florida. All seats are priced at $25 and are available by calling (305) 867-7497. For more information, go to www.natureofthebeach.com.
