Directed by Liesl Tommy, Eclipsed will play the Berlind Theatre Jan. 29-Feb. 8, Wednesdays and Sundays. The cast will comprise Keiana Richàrd as The Girl, Stacey Sargeant as Helena, Pascale Armand as Bessie, Nikiya Mathis as Maima and April Yvette Thompson as Rita.
Eclipsed, press notes state, "offers a compelling portrait of transformation and renewal. Emotionally and geographically displaced by the trauma of civil war, five Liberian women scavenge for the memories and allegiances that will allow them to cross the threshold into a new Liberia. Eclipsed unearths the wreckage of war and celebrates — with wit and compassion, and defiance — the women who navigate and survive the most hostile of circumstances."
Playwright Gurira is also the author of the Obie-winning In the Continuum, which she created with Nikkole Salter.
The In-Festival, which begins Jan. 26, will also feature Wild Nights! — two one-act plays by Joyce Carol Oates, Jan. 26 at 7:30 PM in the Berlind Theatre — and In Their Own Voices, an evening of award-winning writers and composers reading and performing excerpts from their own works-in-progress, Feb. 2 at 7 PM in The Room.
