LOS ANGELES -- Asylum, a new "psycomedy" by Brett Rickaby, ends its southern California premiere July 30 at the Court Theatre. Harvey T. Jordan directed the piece, which began performances June 23.
Rickaby's play, which had its world premiere in Stockton, CA. earlier this year, is about a family that "puts the fun in dysfunctional and the `dis' in dissension," he has stated, adding that he has tried to plumb the psyches of the characters "as they search for their own individual avenues of escape and freedom."
Rickaby's previous play was 70 Dollars to a Bus Ride Home, which had a well-received run at the Hudson Avenue Theatre a few years ago. It was Rickaby's first attempt at playwriting. An actor, he appeared in the cast of 70 Dollars but will not be seen in Asylum.
Court Theatre is located at 722 N. La Cienega Blvd. For tickets and information call (310) 289 2999.
