Ring Out 2015 with "Last Day of the Year" from Striking 12 (Audio) | Playbill

News Ring Out 2015 with "Last Day of the Year" from Striking 12 (Audio) Striking 12, the 2004 concept-concert musical by members of the pop trio GrooveLily and Tony Award-winning librettist Rachel Sheinkin, pays tribute to New Year's Eve as few other musicals do.

With songs by GrooveLily's Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda, the show is sung, acted and played by the songwriters, along with GrooveLily drummer-singer Gene Lewin. Striking 12 melds a modern story of a grumpy guy on New Year's Eve with the story of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Match Girl. Sheinkin is a Tony Award winner for her Spelling Bee libretto.

Seen earlier in Manhattan engagements (including an Off-Broadway run), the three-performer pop musical has also been seen in concert venues and regional theatres around the country with and without GrooveLily (there's a large-cast version of the script/score available for licensing). The band is currently on hiatus.

A live cast recording of Striking 12 was released in 2004 on the PS Classics label. Find it at PlaybillStore.com.
