Variety reports that Ringwald has signed on to portray the mother of a pregnant teenager in a yet-to-be-named series for ABC television. The new pilot was announced as part of ABC Family's upcoming fall season. Penned by "7th Heaven" and "Blossom" scribe Brenda Hampton, the pilot casts Ringwald as Anne Nicholson, whose daughter is coping with an unwanted pregnancy.
Also cast are John Schneider (Chicago, Grand Hotel) as her daughter's doctor, Marshall Johnson, and Ernie Hudson ("Oz") as Dr. Ken Fields. Ringwald's daughter will be played by Shailene Woodley ("The O.C.").
Ringwald has appeared on Broadway in Cabaret and Enchanted April, and Off-Broadway in tick,tick...BOOM!, Modern Orthodox, How I Learned to Drive and the national tour of Sweet Charity. She is well known from such films as "Pretty in Pink," "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club."
