News Rita Gardner Will Star in St. Louis Staging of 4000 Miles Original Fantasticks star Rita Gardner will head the cast of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis production of Amy Herzog's poignant drama 4000 Miles, about a broken young man and the new relationship he forges with his grandmother, which will begin performances Jan. 16.

Herzog earned acclaim for her play, which premiered in 2011 as part of LCT3 and returned in summer 2012 for a full Off-Broadway run at Lincoln Center Theater. The original starred Tony Award winner Mary Louise Wilson and Gabriel Ebert.

Jane Page will stage the Rep production that runs through Feb. 3.

Veteran actress Gardner (A Family Affair, Pal Joey, The Wedding Singer) will portray Vera, with Dan McCabe as her grandson Leo. The cast also includes Lisa Helmi Johanson as Amanda and Katie McClellan as Bec.

Here's how it's billed: "Leo biked for a month from Seattle to New York, but it's a small Greenwich Village apartment where his real journey begins. Reeling from a tragedy, the rudderless twenty-something arrives at the doorstep of his 91 year-old grandmother Vera, an old lefty navigating the rough waters of aging. Together, these two outsiders find their way in one of this year's most touching new plays."

The production will have set design by Robert Mark Morgan, costume design by Jason Orlenko, lighting design by John Wylie and sound design by Rusty Wandall. For tickets phone (314) 968-4925 or visit The Rep's online box office at RepStl.
