Riverdance, the showcase of Irish dance and music that played sold out engagements in Dublin and London in 1995, in New York in March 1996, and again in October 1996, will return to Manhattan Sept. 25-Oct. 12, 1997. A corps of more than 80 performers under the direction of John McColgan will continue leaping, stepping and jigging to music by Bill Whelan. An album of music from the show debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Music chart in spring 1996. The show itself combines Irish dance with specialty acts from Spain and Russia.
Principal dancers in the show are Colin Dunne, Eileen Martin and Flamenco artist, Maria Pages (pronounced "pock'-is"). Sequences include the hip hop-meets Celtic "Trading Taps," as well as "Thunderstorm," "Riverdance," and "Firedance."
