Actor Jason Robards will receive the Lucille Lortel Lifetime Achievement Award May 1 when the 15th Annual Lortel Awards for outstanding Off-Broadway work are given out.
Additional award winners will be announced April 4.
Playwright-actor Charles Busch (Psycho Beach Party, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife) and playwright Israel Horovitz (Line, Today I Am a Fountain Pen) will see their names added to the "Playwrights Sidewalk" in front of the Lucille Lortel Theatre at 121 Christopher Street in Greenwich Village.
Named for the producer Lucille Lortel, a pioneer of Off-Broadway who embraced new and foreign writers, the award began in 1986. The League of Off-Broadway Theaters and Producers present the awards, sponsored by The Lucille Lortel Foundation.
The awards -- with no nominees, just honorees -- are selected by a committee of journalists, including Clive Barnes, Peter Filichia, John Heilpern, Charles Isherwood, Alvin Klein, Michael Kuchwara, Ken Mandelbaum, Emily Nunn, John Simon, Sam Whitehead, John Willis and Linda Winer. Joy Behar and Jesse L. Martin will host the awards May 1.
