Alliance artistic director Susan V. Booth will helm the production, which officially opens Oct. 15 and continues through Nov. 2.
The cast for Maxine will comprise Jana Robbins (Tale of the Allergist's Wife), Ross Bickell (Noises Off), Courtenay Collins (Eating Raoul), Larry Larson (Gem of the Ocean), Judy Leavell (Bingo), Courtney Patterson (eurydice) and Howard Elfman (Bluish).
"I have been given the tremendous opportunity to bring a story about possibility and love and laughter to a larger Atlanta community. I truly feel inspired and excited to have Managing Maxine showcased on the Alliance Stage," Shaffer said in a statement.
Maxine, according to press notes, concerns "70-year-old Maxine Levine, [who] truly falls in love for the first time — an act that creates ripple effects throughout three generations of her family. Feelings of euphoria and insecurity mix as Maxine tries to embrace the possible future this late love brings. This play reminds anyone who has ever loved that all great love feels like young love, whatever your age."
Designing the Alliance production are Joseph Tilford (set design), Linda Roethke (costume design), Deb Sullivan (lighting design), Clay Benning (sound design) and Haddon Kime (composer). For further information phone (404) 733-5000 or visit AllianceTheatre.
