Classic Arts News Robert Farnon, Composer of Film Scores, Dies Composer Robert Farnon, known his light-orchestral compositions, has died at age 87, the BBC News reports.
His work includes scores for more than 40 films, including Spring in Park Lane, Maytime in Mayfair, and Captain Horatio Hornblower RN. He won four Ivor Novello Awards and a Grammy award.

Farnon, born in Canada, came to England in 1944 as the conductor of the Canadian Band of the Allied Expedition Forces. At the end of the war, he made the U.K. his home, and lived for the past 40 years in Guernsey.
