According to a production spokesperson, Givens will play Roxie Hart when the Chicago tour hits Detroit's Fisher Theatre, Feb. 15-March 6. Michelle DeJean, who usually plays the merry murderess on tour, will take over for Givens in the Broadway production at the Ambassador Theatre during that time.
Robin Givens, who is making her Broadway debut in Chicago, has been seen on television in "The Bill Cosby Show," "Moesha," "Diff'rent Strokes," "In the House," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Cosby," "DAG" and "Head of the Class." She appeared in the TV movies "Beverly Hills Madam," "Michael Jordan: An American Hero," "Spinning Out of Control" and "The Women of Brewster Place." Givens' film credits include "Boomerang," "Head of State," "Flip the Script," "Hollywood Wives: The New Generation," "Everything's Jake," "4-Bidden," "Love Chronicles" and "A Good Night To Die."
Chicago currently features Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, Lillias White as Matron "Mama" Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre, located at 215 West 49th Street.
