News Robins and Cuccioli Play Marrieds in Dietz Premiere, Fiction, in NJ March 28 Are Robert Cuccioli and Laila Robins on their way to becoming the 21st century's Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne?

Too early to tell, but the romantically linked couple certainly are getting in the habit of sharing the same stage. Last year, they played the title roles in Anthony and Cleopatra at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. Now, beginning March 28, they will star in the world premiere of Steven Dietz's new play, Fiction, at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ.

The stars of Jekyll & Hyde and Tiny Alice portray a married couple. Both characters are writers. They get along perfectly well until their separate diaries are opened and examined. What's found there blurs "the boundaries between past and present, fact and fiction, trust and betrayal."

[Playbill On-Line previously reported that Cuccioli and Robins are married in real life. We regret the error.]

Also in the cast is Marianne Hagan. David Warren, who recently finished staging Barbra's Wedding Off-Broadway, is the director.

This is the productive Dietz's 25th play. Among his better known titles are Lonely Planet and Private Eyes. His work, not often seen in New York, is favored by many of the nation's best regional theatres, including Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Seattle Rep, San Diego's Old Globe, Arizona Theatre Company and Michigan's Purple Rose Theatre Company. Fiction runs until April 13.

Tickets range from $31 through $47. For tickets, call (609) 258-2787.
