News Rock of Ages Film Due in 2012 The Warner Bros./New Line feature film Rock of Ages, based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, will arrive in movie theatres around the country June 1, 2012, according to Variety.

Adam Shankman, who directed and choreographed the film adaptation of Hairspray, will direct Rock of Ages' big-screen premiere.

On March 4 Shankman Tweeted, "Julianne Hough, alec Baldwin, Mary j Blige, Tom cruise confirmed. I love my cast. More to come."

Baldwin will play the role of Dennis with Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, Hough as Sherrie Christian and Blige as Justice.

The musical's book writer, Chris D'Arienzo, has penned the screenplay for the film with revisions by Shankman and Justin Theroux; it will be produced by Rock of Ages Broadway producers Carl Levin, Matthew Weaver and Scott Prisand, with Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot. Executive producers are Garrett Grant, Janet Billig and Hillary Weaver.

Rock of Ages, which uses hits from the 1980s as its score, premiered Off-Broadway at New World Stages in October 2008. The musical transferred to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway in March 2009, earning five Tony nominations including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Actor for Constantine Maroulis. The production will reopen March 24 at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
