News Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro, With Elizabeth A. Davis, Malcolm Gets and Claybourne Elder, Begins Tonight at CSC Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro, a musical exploration of an Everyman, begins previews Nov. 1 prior to an official opening Nov. 19 at Classic Stage Company.

Directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, the cast includes George Abud as Charlie Townsend, Alma Cuervo (Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret) as Grandma Taylor, Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis (Once, The Caucasian Chalk Circle) as Jenny Brinker, Claybourne Elder (Sunday in the Park With George, Bonnie & Clyde) as Joseph Taylor Jr., Malcolm Gets (Macbeth, The Story of My Life) as Joe Taylor Sr., Maggie Lakis as Hazel, Megan Loomis as Beulah, Paul Lincoln as Brook Lansdale, Jane Pfitsch (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Company) as Emily, Randy Redd as Dr. Bigby Denby, Ed Romanoff as Ned Brinker and Jessica Tyler Wright as Marjorie Taylor.

"Follow the story of Joe Taylor, Jr. from cradle to early manhood in this loving and wise exploration of America’s coming of age, as seen through the eyes of a young physician learning about the mysteries of life and death," press notes state. "Discover this little-known jewel of a show, long considered Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most personal and groundbreaking work of musical theatre." 

The production marks the second installment of CSC's Musical Theater Initiative, which launched in 2013 with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion, directed by Doyle.

Scenic design for Allegro is by Doyle, costume design is by Tony Award winner Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Jane Cox and sound design by Dan Moses Schreier.
