ABC has picked up the new series Still Star-Crossed, which will show what goes down in fair Verona after the action of the classic William Shakespeare tragedy Romeo and Juliet, according to Deadline.

Heather Mitchell, a co-executive producer on Shonda Rhimes' hit ABC series Scandal, is head writer and will executive produce along with Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Michael R. Goldstein.

Set in 16th-century Verona, Still Star-Crossed, according to Deadline, “picks up where William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet left off, charting the treachery, palace intrigue and ill-fated romances of the Montagues and Capulets in the wake of the young lovers’ tragic fate.”

The series stars Anthony Head as Lord Capulet, Grant Bowler as Lord Montague, Greg Chillin as Mercutio, Torrance Coombs as Paris and Lashana Lynch as Rosaline.

The new series is based on Melinda Taub's book.
