On Sept. 26, the star of Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming production of The Royal Family will head to the East Side venue to read selected Oscar Wilde fairy tales to children ages eight to twelve. The reading is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM. Other 92Y Literary Readings and Events of interest to theatre fans: On Jan. 21, 2010, at 8 PM playwright Sam Shepard and rock star Patti Smith will read from new books: Shepard will read from his short story collection "Day Out of Days" (Random House, 2010), and Smith from her memoir "Just Kids: From Brooklyn to the Chelsea Hotel, a Life of Art and Friendship" (HarperCollins, November). Shepard and Smith co-starred in the 1970's Shepard play Cowboy Mouth.
On March 8 Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks will read and play guitar. And, on April 19 star-crossed poets and long-time pen pals Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell get another chance when they are channeled by actors Kate Burton and Michael Cumptsy, who will read from Bishop and Lowell's letters and poetry.
