Ratings for Rosie O'Donnell's final live broadcast were a season high, both Variety and the New York Post report. "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" scored a 5.7 rating/17 share beating out both "Live With Regis and Kelly" (4.6/17) and "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (4.5/12). In New York markets, O'Donnell easily won her time slot and was viewed in 640,000 homes, tripling her usual audience.
Talk-show host O'Donnell announced earlier this year that this would be her final season hosting the program, which regularly promoted Broadway productions. O'Donnell's last show began with a host of Broadway performers saluting the host with new lyrics written for several musical theatre tunes. Tony winners Nathan Lane and Christine Ebersole were O'Donnell's guests, and the program concluded with a clip of film star Tom Cruise — one of the host's favorite performers — mowing O'Donnell's lawn and offering her a glass of lemonade, a scenario O'Donnell often dreamed would happen.
