Classic Arts News Rostropovich Withdraws From Bolshoi War and Peace Mstislav Rostropovich has withdrawn as conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre's new production of Prokofiev's War and Peace, the news agency RIA Novosti reports.
Performances scheduled for December 6, 7, and 8 have been canceled; opening night is now scheduled for December 9. According to a notice on the Bolshoi web site, Bolshoi artistic director Alexander Vedernikov will replace Rostropovich on December 9 and 27 and Paul Sorokin will conduct on December 13 and 14.

The Bolshoi has not given a reason for the change, according to RIA Novosti.
