News Roundabout Honors Stephen Sondheim with Robards Award; Broadway Stars Perform at Gala, April 11 Cyndi Lauper, Christine Baranski, Laura Benanti, Mario Cantone, Michael Cerveris, Alan Cumming, Linda Eder, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters and more join Roundabout Theatre Company in honoring Stephen Sondheim, April 11.

The annual spring gala event — which will include an intimate dinner and entertainment — will take place at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Scott Ellis (Twelve Angry Men) will direct the evening's highlight of an "original, all star musical tribute," according to an announcement.

The lineup of stars set to appear also include Kate Baldwin, Polly Bergen, Danny Burstein, Veanne Cox, Boyd Gaines, Judith Ivey, John Kander, Judy Kuhn, Marin Mazzie, Sally Mayes, Donna Murphy, Karen Ziemba and the New York City Opera Children's Chorus..

Sondheim will be presented with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre — named for the stage and screen actor who served on Roundabout's Board of Directors. The award was introduced in his memory and in honor of his unique contributions to the American theatre. It was first presented to actor Christopher Plummer in 2002 and has since been bestowed upon John Kander and Fred Ebb in 2004.

The Roundabout presented Sondheim and John Weidman's Assassins last season, garnering the most Tony Awards and the duo's Pacific Overtures this season.

Previous galas have included a tribute to John Kander and Fred Ebb featuring Richard Gere, Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera (2004), the Celebration of Roundabout's Great American Musical Series (2003) featuring the Tony-winning revival of Nine, the Inaugural Celebration of Roundabout’s Jason Robards Award for Excellence (2002) honoring Christopher Plummer, the Celebration to Honor Stephen Sondheim (2001) featuring Roundabout's revival of Follies, the Inaugural Celebration of Roundabout's new American Airlines Theatre (2000) featuring Uncle Vanya and the Celebration of Roundabout's Great American Musical Series (1998) with the revival of Little Me.
