Roundabout Theatre Company has announced complete casting for the Off-Broadway world premiere of Jiréh Breon Holder’s Too Heavy For Your Pocket, which will kick off the theatre’s 2017–2018 Underground season. Now in its 11th year, Roundabout Underground is dedicated to producing new works from emerging playwrights and directors.

Too Heavy For Your Pocket will be directed by Margot Bordelon and will feature a cast made up of Brandon Gill (Bella), Eboni Flowers (Dead Dog Park), Hampton Fluker (Shades of Blue), and Nneka Okafor (Troilus and Cressida).

The new play is set in Nashville in the summer of 1961 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Gill will play 20-year-old Bowzie Brandon, who gives up a life-changing college scholarship to join The Freedom Riders on their journey into the Deep South.

Too Heavy for Your Pocket will begin preview performances September 15 ahead of an official opening October 5 at the Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).

The limited engagement is scheduled through November 19. All tickets for Roundabout Underground productions are $25.
