The RSC and the Lyric, Hammersmith, are to co-produce a production of Heinrich von Kleist's classic play, The Prince of Homburg, set in militaristic nineteenth-century Prussia. The night before he leads his troops into a battle, the Prince of Homburg strips off his uniform and goes sleepwalking. Moonstruck, his mind races with a young man's fantasies - love, ambition and victory. But when morning comes, a single reckless act of disobedience sets in motion a chain of events that seems to lead inexorably to the one thing he never dreamt would happen : his own death.
Directed by Neil Bartlett (the Artistic Director of the Lyric), designed by Rae Smith, and with a cast of fourteen, The Prince of Homburg begins previews on Feb. 22 and opens on Feb. 28.
Lyric, Hammersmith box office: 020 8741 2311.
