News Rubin-Vega Reads Lady Luck at LAB's Barn Series Dec. 11 Daphne Rubin-Vega stars in the LAByrinth Theater Company's Barn Series reading of Elizabeth Canavan and Salvatore Inzerillo's Lady Luck Dec. 11.

Mimi O'Donnell stages the 8 PM reading presented at The Public Theater's LuEsther Hall. The Barn Series began Nov. 27 and continues through Dec. 15. The company's Live Nude Plays is next (Dec. 16-17).

"Lucky has just been released from prison," reads show notes for Lady Luck. "He returns to the scene of his past life: Ritchie and Son Piping Co. It's the same struggle, a bunch of con-men fighting to survive. A virgin shows up and raises the stakes to a desperate pitch."

Joining Rubin-Vega in the cast are Julian Acosta, Florencia Lozano, Richard Petrocelli, Felix Solis as well as writers Canavan and Inzerillo. Rubin-Vega — known for Broadway turns in Rent, The Rocky Horror Show, Anna in the Tropics and Les Misérables — appeared in last season's Jack Goes Boating at LAB.

Both the Barn and Live Nude Plays series "feature projects originally work-shopped at LAByrinth's annual Summer Intensive, and represent the next stage of play development at LAByrinth Theater Company," according to an announcement. Most readings are performed by actors with scripts in hand. "The Barn Series features plays that are more traditional in structure whereas Live Nude plays features work that are more experimental in form or presentation."
