News Rude Awakening: New Version of Forbidden Broadway Begins Aug. 31 Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening is the title of the 25th anniversary edition of the long-running, award-winning revue created by Gerard Alessandrini in 1982. Previews begin Aug. 31 at the 47th Street Theatre.

Directed by Alessandrini and Phillip George, the production will officially open Sept. 23. Rude Awakening offers spoofs of Spring Awakening, Curtains, A Chorus Line, "Grease: You're The One That We Want," Legally Blonde, Frost/Nixon, Mary Poppins, Company and Grey Gardens, among others. The cast features Jared Bradshaw, Janet Dickinson, Valerie Fagan and Michael West with David Caldwell on piano.

The design team includes Megan Halpern (set), Mark Janowitz (lights) and Alvin Colt (costumes).

The most recent edition of Forbidden Broadway, entitled The Roast of Utopia, played its final performance Aug. 22. Alessandrini received a 2006 Tony Honor for his creation Forbidden Broadway. The revue has also been honored with Obie, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League and Lucille Lortel awards.

Show times are Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15 PM and Sundays at 7:30 PM with matinees Wednesdays at 2:30 PM, Saturdays at 4 PM and Sundays at 3:30 PM.
