The 2000-2001 season at the Sacramento Theatre Company will feature a new play by Murray Schisgal, as well as The Millennium Monologues, the work of four playwrights and one musician.

The Millennium Monologues, which will run Feb. 6-April 8, 2001, is penned by dramatists Velina Hasu Houston, Aviva Jane Carlin (Jodie's Body), Bob Devin Jones and Robert Daseler, with new music by Gregg Coffin. The play attempts to imagine what the next 100 years will bring, in terms of art, science and human relations.

Murray Schisgal had a big hit back in the 1960's with Luv and has written many plays since. His other credits include The Typists, The Tiger, All Over Town, An American Millionaire and Jimmy Shine. He also co-penned the movie "Tootsie."

Schisgal's latest, We Are Family, will play STC March 6-April 1, 2001, and concerns Sam Kogan, who, having had little luck in heterosexual relationships, decides he's been pursuing the wrong sex. Surrounding him are a group a friends who aren't having much better luck in personal matters.

The rest of the season runs as follows: Blues in the Night, Sheldon Epps' story of four people told through the blues and jazz music of the '20s and '30s, Sept. 12-Oct. 8.
Shirley Valentine, Willy Russell's tale of a lonely housewife who receives a new lease on life, Oct. 3-Nov. 26.
Cinderella, a musical with book and lyrics by Kate Hawley and music by Gregg Coffin, Nov. 14-Dec. 24.
Shaw's classic Arms and the Man, Jan. 23-Feb. 18, 2001.
Shedding the Tiger, a premiere by Velina Hasu Houston (who also collaborates on The Millennium Monologues) about a Japanese woman who idolizes everything French and condescends to all until she realizes how much she's lost through her elitist attitude.
