Richard Greenberg's drama, Three Days of Rain, opens at the Old Globe Theatre's Cassius Carter Centre Stage May 29. Previews began May 26. Former Globe Associate Director and Literary Manager Andrew J. Traister directs the San Diego, CA mounting.
Rain explores how parents are perceived by their children when Walker, Nan and Pip, at the reading of their famous father's will, begin to formulate what their parents' life together was really like. In the second act, the children portray the parents, revealing how different reality was from the second generation's theories.
Greenberg, who was short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize for Three Days, is the author of Hurrah at Last, Night and Her Stars, Eastern Standard and The Author's Voice. Hurrah opens its Off Broadway debut June 3 at the Gramercy Theatre, while Voice plays on a recently-extended double bill at OB's Greenwich House Theatre.
Traister has directed the Old Globe's Below the Belt, Neville's Island, The Substance of Fire and Talley's Folly. A former Artistic Director of the Alaska Repertory Theatre, Traister has directed across the west including pieces with West Coast Ensemble, Oregon and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals and the Arizona Theatre Company.
Rain's trio is played by Reed Diamond (Walker/Ned), Francia Di Mase (Nan/Lina) and Michael Reilly Burke (Pip/Theo).
Designing the show are David Ledsinger (sets), Ann Archbold (lighting), Claire Henkel (costumes) and Jeff Ladman (sound). Raul Moncada is the stage manager.
