Following the opening show of the season, Gangster Number One, San Diego, CA's Fritz Theatre will offer even more violence and mayhem, courtesy of George F. Walker's Escape From Happiness, running Nov. 4-Dec. 5.
The play deals with Nora, the matriarch of a radically dysfunctional family, who takes on urban squalor, police corruption, street gangs and domestic violence. Fritz in-house playwrigvht Karin Williams directs this dark satire, which stars Bonnie Stone, Carol Abney, Jessica Dridz, DeNae Winesette, Sean Quinn, Dale Morris, Romney Robinson, Malcolm Danoff, Mark Petrich, Dave Lamb and Nicole Brondstetter.
After Happiness comes Harold Pinter's The Hothouse, which will open Dec. 16 and run through Jan. 16, 2000. A black comedy set in a loony bin at Christmas, The Hothouse was called by Time Magazine "Pinter's funniest play."
