Conor McPherson's Olivier Award winner, The Weir, will make its West Coast premiere with San Diego's Old Globe Theatre Feb. 5. Old Globe Associate Artist and Tony Award winner Joseph Hardy (Child's Play, Play It Again Sam, Gigi) directs the drama, which runs in the Cassius Carter Centre Stage through March 12. McPherson's play of small town pub regulars who spend a night telling ghostly stories to impress their new neighbor, a quiet young Dublin woman, opened on Broadway April 1, 1999. Although the play received no Tony nominations, The Weir was the last survivor of 1999's new plays with a run of 276 performances and 11 previews. In London, the drama garnered the 1999 Olivier Award for Best New Play. McPherson's other works include St. Nicholas, This Lime Tree Bower and Dublin Carol.

Starring in The Weir are Nesbitt Blaisdell (Jack), Don Campbell (Jim), Adrienne Dreiss (Valerie), Dennis Parlato (Finbar) and C.J. Wilson (Brendan). Blaisdell played roles in Broadway productions of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Abe Lincoln in Illinois. Parlato appeared on Broadway in A Chorus Line, Chess, She Loves Me and The Sound of Music. An Off-Broadway vet from Stop Kiss and Cripple of Innishmaan, Wilson comes directly from New York City's Jewish Repertory Theatre's production of Home of the Brave.

Kent Dorsey designed the sets and lighting; Robert Morgan, the costumes and Jeff Ladman, the sound. Raul Moncada is the stage manager.

Tickets are $39-$23 and are available by calling (619) 239-2255. The Old Globe Theatre is located in Balboa Park.
