Loretta Greco (last season's Blackbird) will direct the comedy slated for a Jan. 4-Feb. 3, 2008 run at A.C.T.'s Geary Stage. Opening night is Jan. 9.
Andrew Polk (The Accomplices, Walmartopia), Matthew Del Negro (Touch, "The Sopranos") and Jessi Campbell (A.C.T.'s Blackbird, Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen) will take on the Mamet satire set in the world of Hollywood movie producers.
A.C.T. has previously presented Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago (in 2005), The Voysey Inheritance (2005) and American Buffalo (2003).
"Speed-the-Plow focuses on two high-powered Hollywood executives, Charlie Fox and Bobby Gould, who have come up from the mailroom together," accoridng to A.C.T. "Charlie brings Bobbie a surefire hit with a major star attached. Bobby seems certain to give the green light, until his beautiful new secretary gets involved."
The work was first produced on Broadway in 1988 featuring Madonna, Joe Mantegna and Ron Silver. Alicia Silverstone took on the role in a recent Los Angeles revival. The play is also slated for a London run starring Kevin Spacey at London's Old Vic in February 2008. Laura Michelle Kelly and Jeff Goldblum will co-star. The design team includes Skip Mercier (set), York Kennedy (lighting), Alex Jaeger (costumes) and Jake Rodriguez (sound).
Director Greco has previously staged Lackawanna Blues, Blackbird, Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen, The Story, Two Sisters and a Piano, Mercy, Gum and Under a Western Sky.
The season continues at A.C.T. with Athol Fugard's The Blood Knot (Feb. 8 March 9, 2008), Nikolai Gogol's The Government Inspector (March 20-April 20, 2008), Sam Shepard's Curse of the Starving Class (April 25-May 25, 2008) and John Ford's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore (June 5-July 6, 2008).
