Classic Arts News   San Francisco Opera Switches Designers for 2006 Maid of Orleans

The San Francisco Opera announced yesterday that it will not be using sets and costumes from Teatro Regio Torino, as originally planned, for its June 2006 production of Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans

Stage director Christopher Alexander will instead work with set designer Robert Dahlstrom to create a new production of the opera, scheduled to run June 3 through July 1, at the War Memorial Opera House.

Teatro Regio's production was designed by Luisa Spinatelli. No reason was given for the change.

Mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick will perform the title role of Joan of Arc. San Francisco Opera music director Donald Runnicles is the conductor.
