Last season, New York’s Roundabout Theatre company tapped Alan Cumming for a period revival of Noel Coward’s Design for Living. This season, San Francisco’s Theatre Rhinoceros will bring a contemporary reimagining of the comedy to their stage Jan. 17-Feb. 16. John Fisher (Medea: The Musical, The Joy of Gay Sex) adapted Design and directs. Coward’s play, shocking in its1932 premiere, concerns a confused threesome, Gilda, Otto and Leo, who discover they weren’t made to couple, but to trio. Fisher has moved the action to a contemporary setting and infused the Coward’s songs to the play, as a sort of choral commentary on the action.

Jenny Lord is Gilda with Will Springhorn, Jr. as Leo, Jayson Matthews as Otto, and Doug Holsclaw as Ernest.

Tickets are $15-$22. Theater Rhinoceros is located at 2926 16th Street. For reservations, call (415) 861-5079. Theatre Rhinoceros is on the web at http://www.therhino.org .
