In her new role at the Public, Davis will oversee the downtown organization's ongoing $35 million renovation of its Lafayette Street home. Davis most recently served as the director of leadership gifts and special campaigns at the Metropolitan Opera. Prior to that she also worked in fundraising for the New York Philharmonic and the Seattle Opera. “We are thrilled to welcome Sandra to The Public family. She immediately struck us as an extremely intelligent, hard-working, passionate ambassador for the performing arts," said executive director Andrew D. Hamingson in a statement. "She brings decades of development experience to an institution that has shown tremendous growth over the past five years. We look forward to working with Sandra as The Public realizes the dreams and ambitions that Joe Papp created for this New York City institution."
The Public Theater renovations include a restoration of the building's façade, as well as a new glass canopied granite veranda (including an outer staircase and two ramps flanking the building); a new mezzanine lounge (able to accommodate 150 people) that will overlook the current lobby area; a centrally located box office; increased restrooms; and upgrades to the heating and air-conditioning systems.
