Grammy and Tony-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles will return to the role of Jenna in her hit Broadway musical Waitress beginning January 7, 2019, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. That same day, Hello, Dolly! Tony winner Gavin Creel will start performances as Dr. Pomatter.

Both will play a limited engagement through February 3.

In a statement, Bareilles said, “It’s Waitress third anniversary on Broadway! To celebrate, I’m putting on the apron once again alongside one of my besties!! I can’t think of anything I would rather do to kick off this incredible milestone year than return to my favorite place on earth next to the one and only Gavin Creel.”

Bareilles first stepped into the leading role of Waitress in 2017. In addition to Hello, Dolly!, Creel is known for his performances in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, She Loves Me, and The Book of Mormon (for which he earned an Olivier Award).

The current Broadway cast includes Nicolette Robinson as Jenna, Charity Angel Dawson as Becky, Lenne Klingaman as Dawn, Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Ben Thompson as Earl, June Squibb as Josie, Benny Elledge as Cal, and Alex Wyse as Ogie (Christopher Fitzgerald returns December 11).

Waitress, which opened April 24, 2016, is based upon the 2007 film written by the late Adrienne Shelly. The musical is the first Broadway production in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro, and direction by Tony winner Diane Paulus.

Waitress is currently out on a U.S. national tour and will open this spring in London’s West End with Katharine McPhee playing the role of Jenna.
