The 6 PM performance of the Broadway dance musical Forever Tango was cancelled Saturday night, June 27, due to a power outage at the Marriott Marquis, the hotel building that houses the show.
According Marriott's NYC director of public relations Lucy Bossert (reached June 29), "At 5:50 PM on Saturday night, the Marquis experienced a power outage when a City contracted telephone line installer accidentally cut two power lines. The hotel lost power for an hour. For safety reasons, we cleared the elevator and didn't let anybody into the building, though there was no need to evacuate the building."
Both Bossert and Tango spokesperson Jeff Dobbins confirmed that the 6 PM performance of Tango was cancelled, though the 9 PM show went on as scheduled. Bossert added that theatregoers who were inconvienced by the early-show cancellation should return to the point of-purchase for a refund, be it the Marquis box office (212) 382-0242, or TicketMaster (212) 307-4100.
In happier news, Dobbins affirmed that Tango "would definitely run through the summer." For a show that originally began with a limited two Broadway month run at the Walter Kerr, Forever Tango has danced its way through a ten month run at the Kerr, a cast album, a transfer to the larger Marquis, and now, a North American tour.
Forever Tango is currently in the midst of a 15-city tour spanning the continent, with 12 US dates, two stops in Canada and one in Mexico. The itinerary is subject to change and includes the following performance venues: June 30-July 12: Royce Hall--UCLA CPA; Los Angeles, CA
July 14-28: Teatro Alameda; Mexico City, Mexico
July 28-August 2: Auditorium Theatre; Denver, CO

One fly in the ointment, though: in Los angeles, a complaint was recently filed by a New York entertainment lawyer, alleging copyright infringement for the use of three songs in the Forever Tango revue.
Wallace Collins, representing Italian music publisher PaganMusic, filed the complaint against Luis Bravo, Jujamcyn Theaters and the other producers of the hit Broadway play about the evolution of the tango.
The complaint was filed in New York Federal Court, and alleges copyright infringement for the songs "Libertango," "Adios Nonino" and "Finale." A temporary restraining order was requested, as well as an injunction against any more performances. Damages sought are reportedly more than $1 million for the New York production as well as touring productions in the United States.
