News #SaveTheEdison! Lunch Mob Planned to Save Theatregoing Hotspot Cafe Edison With the news that Cafe Edison — a midtown Manhattan staple for theatregoers and Broadway crowds — will shut its doors at the end of December, theatre folk and fans of the restaurant are organizing a lunch mob for Nov. 8.

According to Jeremiah's Vanishing New York, the blog that broke the news that the Hotel Edison is not renewing the café's lease, "People want to take action. So here's the plan: Tomorrow, starting at noon and going to whenever, there will be a Lunch Mob for Cafe Edison."

A Facebook event for the lunch mob can be found here.

According to the Facebook page, "Let the cafe, hotel management, and the tourists know why you're there. PLEASE BRING A SIGN OF SUPPORT TO CREATE A VISUAL IMPACT. Markers, poster board, slogans: 'Save Cafe Edison,' 'Polish Tea Room Forever,' whatever's clever.

"Have lunch, make some noise, get connected with other concerned and pissed off New Yorkers. Take photos--tweet and Instagram with hashtag #SaveCafeEdison. Do those Foursquare and Swarm check-in things, too. Spread the word!"

Cafe Edison is located at 228 W. 47th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues). The event starts at noon and "goes to whenever everyone is full." Read more about why the midtown Manhattan staple will close this December.
