B.B. King Blues Club, which recently hosted this year's Broadway Bears event, will once again be opening its doors to Broadway fans as they present "Black 2: Broadway," March 10. The monthly series will premiere with stars Savion Glover, Lillias White, Billy Porter and Darius de Haas.
"Black 2: Broadway" billed as a celebration of "the contributions of African American Performers in Theatre," will feature a live band, background vocalists, dance and music performances. In addition, to cultivate future artists, the variety show formatted presentation will spotlight rising stars from theatre as well as music and dance.
Glover made his Broadway debut as the title character in The Tap Dance Kid at the age of 12. He went on to appear in Black and Blue, Jelly's Last Jam and Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, for which he won a Best Choreography Tony Award.
White was last seen in the Actor's Fund Benefit Concert of Dreamgirls (with "Black 2" co-stars Porter and de Haas). She garnered a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in The Life. Other credits include Cats, Dinah Was and Barnum.
Porter is best known for his role as The Teen Angel in the Broadway revival of Grease!. He also played in Miss Saigon. de Haas has been on Broadway in Rent and Marie Christine. More recently he appeared in Papermill Playhouse production of Children of Eden with Stephanie Mills and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. For tickets to "Black 2: Broadway" at B.B.
