"This really means a lot to David," Newman's wife Karen told the Free Press. "Curtis and Marcus are two of the very best."
Newman has undergone hip-replacement surgery and is recovering, according to concert producer James Ross.
Newman first came to prominence as a member of Ray Charles's group in the 1950s and '60s. He has since made dozens of jazz and rhythm and blues recordings with Aretha Franklin, Lee Morgan, B. B. King, Dr. John, and others.
