News Schellhardt's Shapeshifter Opens at Trinity Rep May 6 The Trinity Repertory Theatre world premiere production of playwright Laura Schellhardt's Shapeshifter officially opens in Providence, RI, May 6.

The new production of Shapeshifter began performances May 1 and will run through May 31 in Trinity Rep's Dowling Theater. Laura Kepley directs.

Miriam Silverman and Brian McEleney lead a cast that also features Rachael Warren, Anne Scurria, Fred Sullivan, Jr. and Joe Wilson, Jr.

Shapeshifter is described as such: "While waiting for the fishermen to return after a terrible storm, young Midge (Silverman) and the old villager Fierson (McEleney) trade tales of mysterious women who come from the water, air and fire. As they spin their tales in the days that follow, the stories somehow seem to mirror Midge’s own family history."

The production team includes Loy Arcenas (set design), William Lane (costume design), Brian J. Lilienthal (lighting design) and John Gromada (sound design).

Schellhardt, who is currently the playwright in residence at Trinity Rep, premiered earlier incarnations of Shapeshifter at the University of Central Florida and Brown University as well as a reading at Trinity Rep. Billed as a world premiere, the Trinity Rep production marks the first professional staging of the play that has undergone rewrites since earlier presentations. Schellhardt's other plays include Air Guitar High, Auctioning the Ainsleys, The Apothecary's Daughter, The K of D, Courting Vampires, Inheritance and Je Ne Sais Quoi.
