The Playwrights Realm has announced that Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are behind the Off-Broadway return of Sarah DeLappe’s The Wolves, directed by Lila Neugebauer. The playwright made her New York stage debut with the acclaimed staging, about an all-girls soccer team, earlier this fall.
The Wolves will return to The Duke on 42nd Street, where it previously opened September 11, for a limited run November 29-December 24.
DeLappe’s work is billed as a “portrait of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Taking place on the turf of an indoor soccer field, its characters discuss life, politics, adolescence, and love, while preparing for their game. The all-female cast returns: Brenna Coates, Jenna Dioguardi, Samia Finnerty, Midori Francis, Lizzy Jutila Sarah Mezzanotte, Tedra Millan, Lauren Patten, and Susannah Perkins.
“These women are warriors, ” commented DeLappe in an earlier statement. “Each scene is a warm-up for a soccer game: they're a troop preparing for battle.” The play was the recipient of the inaugural 2015 Relentless Award, in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman and the largest cash prize in American theatre, and received a mainstage production at Vassar & New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater in summer 2016.
“During the record-breaking run of Sarah DeLappe’s The Wolves, we were completely sold-out, and had to turn people away nightly,” commented The Playwrights Realm Producing Director Roberta Pereira in a press statement. “Sarah is now in residence at The Realm as our Page One Playwright and we are thrilled to be partnering with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush to give this production a further life and share it with many more people.”
Tickets for season pass holders are now on sale via playwrightsrealm.org. The Duke is located at 229 W. 42nd Street, New York.
