News Scott Rudin Attached to "Same Time, Next Year" Remake; Mark and Jay Duplass in Negotiations to Pen Script Universal Pictures, Broadway producer Scott Rudin and Walter Mirisch are planning a film remake of "Same Time, Next Year," the 1978 romantic comedy based on Bernard Slade's play of the same name, according to Deadline.com.

Mark and Jay Duplass ("The Puffy Chair," "Cyrus") are in negotiations to write the script, which focuses on a man and woman—both married to others—who meet each other annually through several decades and personal changes. Slade's play, which starred Tony winner Ellen Burstyn and Charles Grodin, opened in March 1975 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The Robert Mulligan-directed film starred Alan Alda and Burstyn.
