The musical Vietnamese folktale My Mom's Dad will tour Southern California schools from Feb. 2-May 26, 2000, in a South Coast Rep production. The musical, which deals with an American girl learning to live with and appreciate her aged grandfather, has music by Richard Hellesen and lyrics by Michael Silversher. John David-Keller is the director.

When SCR first produced My Mom's Dad in 1993, the show won praise from students, teachers and parents alike. According to the Orange County Register, which reviewed an in-school performance, "There were few dry eyes in the house."

The show travels with a cast of four professional actors, a stage manager and a set that can be utilized in school libraries, gyms and all-purpose rooms as well as in outside playground areas. The show is suitable for children in grades K-6. Running time is 45 minutes. Call the SCR Education Office at (714) 708-5549 for booking information.
