Hayes also did not perform at the matinee on Nov. 21 at the Broadway Theatre. In a statement, Hayes said, "I wish I never had to miss a show. I'd sleep on the stage if the doorman didn't kick me out. I made it all the way to 271 performances but my doctor tells me that singing with a sinus infection just won't work, which kills my dream of never missing a performance for the whole run of Promises. I'm at home resting and hope to be back onstage tomorrow."
Peter Benson, who usually plays Mr. Kirkeby, will play Chuck in Hayes' absence. The show also stars Kristin Chenoweth as Fran Kubelik, Tony Goldwyn as J.D. Sheldrake, Molly Shannon as Marge MacDougall, Dick Latessa as Dr. Dreyfuss, Brooks Ashmanskas as Mr. Dobitch, Helen Anker as Miss Olson, Seán Martin Hingston as Mr. Eichelberger and Ken Land as Jesse Vanderhof.
As previously announced, the musical will play its final performance on Broadway Jan. 2, 2011, having played 30 preview and 291 regular performances.
