Eda Holmes will direct Seana McKenna as the mother of an autistic teenager in the play. Previews begin March 5, 2007, at CanStage's Berkeley Street Theatre Downstairs in Toronto.
The cast also includes Tony Munch, Philippa Domville, Brendan Murray and Meg Roe as Lucy.
According to CanStage, "Lucy is 13 years old; Lucy is autistic. She sees her mother for the first time in years when her father decides to re-marry and start a new life. Lucy is a play about newfound love between a mother and daughter and the revelations it triggers, including a provocative new theory of evolution."
Seana McKenna appeared in CanStage's Wit and Boy Gets Girl and has worked throughout Canada and the U.S., including the Stratford Festival.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Teresa Przybylski, original music and sound designer Marc Desormeaux, lighting designer Andrea Lundy, stage manager Marinda De Beer and assistant stage manager Krista Blackwood. Damien Atkins has acted on most major stages across the country (including at CanStage in The Glass Menagerie). He is a Stratford Festival veteran, both as an actor and as the youngest playwright the Festival has ever produced (Good Mother, also starring Seana McKenna). His works as a playwright include Miss Chatelaine (Theatre Passe Muraille/Grand Theatre), Good Mother (Stratford Festival) and Real Live Girl (Buddies in Bad Times, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Grand Theatre), for which he received two Dora Mavor Moore Awards (Best New Musical and Best Actor in a Musical).
Lucy opens March 8, after previews, and continues to April 14.
