Dennis Bigelow directs this modern adaptation of Moliere's classic comedy about a man who can't tolerate the superficiality of his peers yet falls in love with a woman who is the embodiment of everything he hates. Artists Rep's production, translated and adapted by Lauren Goldman Marshall and based on a concept by Alan Craig DiBona, transfers the setting to Seattle's alternative music scene, casting the hero Alceste as rock star with a taste for the blunt truth and his love interest Celimene as a singer and would-be movie star.

Actor-musician Dan Reed of The Dan Reed Network wrote the show's original music. Reed penned much of the Network's music, three albums of which were recorded by Polygram. His other credits include six screenplays and the ownership of his own club, The Ohm.

David Ivers (the Rep's Three Days of Rain) stars as Alceste. Joining Ivers are Jami Chatalas (Celimene), Jesse N. Holmes (Oronte), Leif Norby (Philinte), Michaela Watkins (Eliante), Jeff Marchant (Clitandre), Devan McCoy (Acaste), Karen Trumbo (Arsinoe) and Antonio Sonera (Basque/DuBois/Messanger).

Designing Misanthrope are Curt Enderle (set), Natalie Leavenworth (costumes), Martin John Gallagher (sound) and Jeff Forbes (lighting). Tickets ($25-$16.50) are available by calling (503) 241-1ART. The Reiersgaard Theatre is located at 1515 SW Adler Street.
