News Seattle's 5th Ave. Gets Flower Drum, Millie and New Musical Next Season Seattle's The 5th Avenue Theatre will present the national tours of Flower Drum Song and Thoroughly Modern Millie as well as five of their own productions — including the new musical Yankee Doodle Dandy — and a presentation of the "Sing Along Sound of Music" in their 2003-2004 season.

The recently closed Broadway musical revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song with new book by David Henry Hwang (M Butterfly) will make a stop at the Washington stage Oct. 7-26.

The Dick Scanlan-Richard Morris-Jeanine Tesori Tony Award-winning musical, still running on Broadway, will reach the Seattle stage across the country when 5th Avenue hosts the national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie, March 17-April 4, 2004.

Showing its dedication to local talent, The Emerald City will get its own Emerald City as 5th Avenue presents a production of the musical Wizard Of Oz Dec. 2-21. Other homegrown productions include A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Dreamgirls and The Rocky Horror Show.

The 5th Avenue's own artistic director David Armstrong will also direct his new musical Yankee Doodle Dandy, April 27-May 16, 2004. Featuring a book by Armstrong and new music and lyrics by Albert Evans, the work centers around legendary theatre impresario George M. Cohan — an actor, singer, dancer, producer, director, playwright, composer, lyricist and librettist who was the subject of the film "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and the musicals George M! and Uncle Broadway. The musical will also feature songs by Cohan.

An added feature to the season will be the popular "Sing Along Sound Of Music" which allows audiences to take part in the movie musical. The Seattle venue will also host a costume contest at its screenings set for Dec. 26, 27 and 28. The complete season schedule follows: (subject to change)
