Moliere's classic comedy Scapin was given the musical treatment by Rusty Magee, Shelley Berc and Andreai Belgrader back in 1993, netting Magee an Outer Critics Circle Award for Most Promising Composer. Seattle's Intiman Theatre will revive the production Sept. 18-Oct. 12, directed by commedia dell' arte expert Christopher Bayes.

Following the Seattle run, Scapin will play Chicago's Court Theatre Oct. 24-Nov. 24.

Scapin is a quick-witted scoundrel, whose machinations bring two young men together with the young women they love, no matter what their miserly fathers wish for the boys. Magee composed a genre-bridging score, featuring pastiches of everything from classical music styles to Broadway, blues and Motown tunes.

Magee's other musical credits include The Green Heart, The Czar of Rock & Roll and Ubu Rock, another adaptation with Berc and Belgrader, this time of Ubu Roi. Belgrader and Berc have many adaptation and directing credits with Yale Repertory Theatre and Boston's American Repertory Theatre.

David V. Scully, who recently starred in Seattle's Fully Committed, plays Scapin. Other Seattle actors in the company are Jeff Caldwell (Nerine), Ian Fraser (Leandre), Samuel S. Sibley (Porter), David Silverman (Geronte), Stephanie Timm (Hyacinte), Allen Gilmore (Argante) and Brian Weaver (Octave). Chicago contributes Sean Fortunato (Silvestre), Kimberly Herbert-Gregory (Zerbinette) and Matthew Krause (Carle). Tickets are $42-$27.
